Does your student LOVE science, building, and have strong creative thinking and problem solving skills? If so, he/she should apply for our KSE Science Olympiad team. The Science Olympiad team is for students in grades 3-5. Only 20 students can be on the team so it is a very competitive application process, which also requires a teacher's recommendation. Please click on the application below for more details. Applications are due by Friday, November 16th.

Here are some web sites you might want to check out to help you get some project ideas!
https://www.sciencefaircentral.com/students/scientific-projects www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project-ideas?From=Tab https://www.education.com/science-fair/ http://sciencefair.math.iit.edu/projects/ There are a lot of different graphic organizers out there than can be used to help organize your thoughts and data, which follow the scientific method. Here is one potential graphic organizer that can be used. At the end of October, you should have received an email from your child's teacher with the November STEM family challenge attached. For this challenge, you are to create something that represents your family or your culture using a paper plate. Additional materials you have at home may also be used. You may turn in your creation to Mrs. Whitesell or Mrs. Wilfred, post a picture or video of it on the KSE Facebook page, or tweet it to @KSpringsLions. It can be turned in anytime between now and Tuesday, Nov. 27th. Students will earn a house point for turning in a project!
Are you interested in creating a science fair project, but just don’t know where to start? We are holding science fair help sessions for 3rd-5th grade students on Wednesdays after school on 11/14, 11/28, 12/5, and 12/12. We will work on their project research and help define their essential question. Students may attend one or multiple sessions but must sign up each week for a slot. Signups are first come, first serve for first 15 students signed up. We will release a new signup a week ahead of time and will be posted on our STEM website.
Here is a link to our first sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904084dada8238-science11 It's time to start thinking about a science fair project! Our school science fair will be held on Saturday, January 12th. (More details to come!) You cannot enter projects in the district level fair without winning the school level fair. Please see the attached display regulations as well as the rubric that will be used to judge the projects.
Our first family STEM challenge was a big hit! Our families did a great job of creating something useful from nature. Stay tuned for our next family challenge! |
